WE’VE GOTTA GET SHOES ON WILLIE
[2007] From: Roz L. : Back in the late 40's - 50's my brother and I sang a couple of songs after hearing them on the radio that we have forever been looking for. We hope you can help us as to who recorded them and hopefully get the music or a recording. We are still singing them to our grandkids, but would love to leave the legacy in an official recording or sheet music.
The first one is "We've Gotta Get Shoes on Willie" about a hillbilly kid who is dating his cousin Tilly and before he marries has to be shod. The uncles and aunts got him in his pants and the parents are ordering the shoes from a mail order catalog--size 22 cuz he's growin yet and one black and the other brown in a compromise of color.

The other song is "MISS EFFIE" (query noted on the “M” page) about a western gal who’s handy with a gun but drives the men insane by shooting them and then claiming she didn't know the gun was loaded. She first shoots her date, a wrestling heavyweight, in the knee when he tries out holds she didn't appreciate, then shoots the sheriff in the hip so she's put on trial. The sheriff's jealous wife then shoots her while she is on the stand and claims she didn't know the gun was loaded.
Thanks for any help you can give us. Roz L.

Ed. Note: Hi, We don't know either  one, and will do a search of our own. Also, we'll post your hunt on our Song Swap page. Someone else may come up with the answers. You'd be surprised at how many obscure songs are recognized by others!

Thanks so much for your help with this!! Have my fingers crossed.  Sincerely,  Roz

WHO KILLED THE BLACK WIDOW? More verses, anyone?

From Alice: Can anyone help me??? Thanks. I came across your website. I wonder if you could help me. I have been feverishly looking for a silly song that I believe is called "Who killed the black widow". My father used to sing it to us as kids and I would love to get my hands on a sound track. It goes like this.....

Who killed the black widow,
who killed the black widow,
I hit em' on the head with a frying pan
then threw him outside in the garbage can
Who killed the'
Who killed the black widow,

(then there's more that we can't remember....)

A (partial surmise)We haven't been able to find it, but it sounds like an amalgamation of a take-off on "I'm Lookin' Over A Four Leaf Clover" plus something else. Anyone else out there know about this one?
